Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum is located at Bajirao Road,Shukrawar Peth. Dr. Dinker kelkar started collecting artifacts from around 1920 and by 1960, the compilation had increased to around 15,000 items. With over 20,000 objects on display, the collection is dedicated to the memory of his only son `Raja' who died a tragic death.
Dr. Dinker being a true art lover collected various objects from day to day life including pots, lamps,pens ink stands etc. The museum also houses carved woodden doors and windows from Rajesthan, Gujrat, Kerela and Karnataka. Articles belonging to Mughal and Maratha periods that dates back to 17th century are displayed at Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum. Musical instruments, metalwork, exquisite chitrakathi paintings and a unique lock collection are the other attractions of the museum.
The Mastani Mehal which was made here after dislodging it from its original place is the main attraction. The reconstruction of audience room from Mastani Mehal is also incredible. The museums also holds some of the Mughal antiques including paintings and day to day instruments.
The museum is open from 10:00am to 05:00pm daily except for government holidays. Rickshaws are the best way to reach here as it is located in the heart of the city. The entry fees for Indian visitors is Rs.8 and Rs.80 for foreign visitors.
